Edward Sedgwick (1882-1953) was a prolific American director, actor, and screenwriter, active from the silent era through the 1930s and 1940s. Known for his versatility, he primarily directed comedies, westerns, and adventure films.

The most significant part of his career is linked to his collaboration with Buster Keaton. Sedgwick directed some of his most memorable films, including *The Cameraman* (1928), considered a comedy classic, and *Spite Marriage* (1929), both significant successes for Keaton during the transition to sound.

His style was characterized by solid and functional direction, ideal for showcasing the comedic and physical talent of his stars. Although not an auteur director in the modern sense, Sedgwick was a reliable craftsman and a pillar of Hollywood's genre production, also directing stars such as Tom Mix and Jimmy Durante in numerous successful films.
