
Jacques Audiard
**Jacques Audiard** (Paris, 1952) is an acclaimed French director and screenwriter, known for his intense and dark cinema, which explores themes of violence, redemption, identity, and social marginalization.
After writing numerous screenplays, he gained international recognition with *De battre mon cœur s'est arrêté* (2005), which won numerous César Awards. His masterpiece is often considered *Un prophète* (2009), a prison drama awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes and nominated for an Oscar. He then won the Palme d'Or with *Dheepan* (2015), the story of a Tamil refugee, and directed his first English-language film, the Western *The Sisters Brothers* (2018).
His style is distinguished by the psychological depth of his characters, often anti-heroes struggling for survival or a second chance, and an immersive and visceral direction.
