His feature film debut, **_O Som ao Redor_** (2012), was critically acclaimed for its acute analysis of social dynamics and latent violence in Brazilian society, set in his hometown, Recife. He consolidated his reputation with **_Aquarius_** (2016), which premiered at Cannes and became a symbol of political resistance in Brazil, featuring an exceptional Sônia Braga.

Alongside Juliano Dornelles, he co-directed **_Bacurau_** (2019), winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes. This film, a surprising mix of western, science fiction, and social drama, explores themes of colonialism and the struggle for survival.
