Marjane Satrapi
Franco-Iranian film director and comic artist, Marjane Satrapi is renowned for her distinctive voice and unique visual style. She rose to international fame with the animated film adaptation of her acclaimed autobiographical graphic novel, *Persepolis* (2007), co-directed with Vincent Paronnaud. The film, a poignant and stylistically distinctive account of her childhood in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, received the Jury Prize at Cannes and an Academy Award nomination.
She followed this with another graphic novel adaptation, *Chicken with Plums* (2011), also in collaboration with Paronnaud, which blends animation and live-action. Subsequently, she transitioned to live-action films, exploring diverse genres, such as the black comedy *The Voices* (2014) and the biopic *Radioactive* (2019) about Marie Curie.
Her filmmaking is characterized by a pronounced visual aesthetic, the exploration of themes such as identity, exile, and memory, often with a touch of black humor and a unique perspective on human and historical events.
