Stanley Donen (1924-2019) was an American director, choreographer, and producer, known for redefining the Hollywood musical genre. Often in collaboration with Gene Kelly, he directed masterpieces such as On the Town (1949) and Singin' in the Rain (1952) – the latter universally recognized as one of the greatest musicals of all time. His notable works also include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) and Funny Face (1957).

His style is characterized by visual elegance, choreographic innovation, lively rhythm, and a touch of sophisticated irony. Donen demonstrated versatility by successfully directing romantic comedies and thrillers, such as the acclaimed Charade (1963) and the intense Two for the Road (1967). He left an indelible mark on cinema, celebrated for his ability to infuse joy, verve, and intelligence into his works.
