Alan Mowbray, born Alfred Ernest Allen, was a British actor known for his prolific career in Hollywood as a character actor, particularly from the 1930s to the 1950s. Specializing in roles as English gentlemen—often pompous, flustered, or comedic—he portrayed a wide range of characters with great versatility, from butlers to military officers and aristocrats. His filmography includes over 150 titles, with notable roles in classics such as *My Man Godfrey* (1936), *To Be or Not to Be* (1942), *The King and I* (1956), and *Around the World in 80 Days* (1956). In addition to his on-screen work, Mowbray was a key figure in the film industry as one of the founding members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) in 1933, an organization for which he also served as vice president. For his significant contribution to the motion picture industry, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
