Alice Brady (1892-1939) was an American actress whose career successfully spanned the silent and sound film eras. The daughter of renowned Broadway producer William A. Brady, she began her career on the stage before making her film debut in 1914, quickly becoming a leading star for the World Film Corporation. With the advent of sound, she established herself as a versatile and acclaimed character actress. Her talent received the highest recognition from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: in 1937, she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her comedic role in *My Man Godfrey* (1936). The following year, she won the award in the same category for her powerful portrayal of Catherine O'Leary in the disaster film *In Old Chicago* (1937). Her prolific career, which included over 80 films, was cut short by her death at the age of 46.
