Brigitte Lin Ching-hsia is a Taiwanese actress, considered one of the greatest stars of Chinese-language cinema of the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s. Discovered at a very young age, she made her debut in 1973 with the film "Outside the Window" and quickly rose to fame as the lead in numerous Taiwanese romantic dramas. In the 1980s, she moved to Hong Kong, diversifying her career with roles in action films and comedies, such as in "Police Story" (1985). Her status as an icon was solidified in the early 1990s thanks to her performances in wuxia films, where she excelled in androgynous and charismatic roles, most notably as Asia the Invincible in "Swordsman II" (1992). Her filmography includes acclaimed works such as "Red Dust" (1990), for which she won the Golden Horse Award for Best Actress, "The Bride with White Hair" (1993), and collaborations with Wong Kar-wai on "Ashes of Time" and "Chungking Express" (1994). She retired from acting at the height of her popularity in 1994.
