
Eleanor Parker
Eleanor Jean Parker (1922–2013) was an American actress, celebrated for her remarkable versatility, which earned her the nickname "the woman of a thousand faces." She reached the peak of her career in the 1950s, receiving three Academy Award nominations for Best Actress for her intense performances in the prison drama *Caged* (1950), the noir film *Detective Story* (1951), and the biographical film *Interrupted Melody* (1955). For her performance in *Caged*, she also won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival. Her other memorable roles include the adventure film *Scaramouche* (1952), *The Man with the Golden Arm* (1955) alongside Frank Sinatra, and her celebrated role as Baroness Elsa Schraeder in the musical *The Sound of Music* (1965). Her critically acclaimed career continued successfully on the small screen with numerous television appearances.
