Jack Carson, the stage name of John Elmer Carson (1910-1963), was a Canadian-born American actor, primarily active during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Starting in vaudeville and radio, he established himself as a prolific character actor, often under contract with Warner Bros. He became known for his roles as a good-natured comic sidekick, playing exuberant and affable characters, as in his partnership with Dennis Morgan in several musical comedies. However, Carson demonstrated considerable versatility and depth in more complex and dramatic roles. His most memorable performances include the opportunistic Wally Fay in *Mildred Pierce* (1945), the cynical press agent in *A Star Is Born* (1954), and the older brother Gooper Pollitt in *Cat on a Hot Tin Roof* (1958). For his contribution to the entertainment industry, he was honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for radio and one for television.
