Liang Zhen is a Chinese-American computer scientist and entrepreneur, internationally known for his fundamental role in the development of computer graphics. Together with his partner Vladimir Koylazov, he is the co-creator of the V-Ray rendering engine and co-founder of the company Chaos (originally Chaos Group). Officially launched in 2002, V-Ray quickly became an industry standard for generating photorealistic images, finding widespread application in fields such as film visual effects, architectural visualization, product design, and video games. The software has been used in countless Hollywood productions, helping to define the modern aesthetic of computer-generated imagery (CGI). For their crucial contribution to the design and implementation of V-Ray, which has enabled the creation of complex and realistic large-scale scenes, Liang Zhen and Vladimir Koylazov received a Scientific and Engineering Award in 2017 from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
