Liilia Šinkarjova

Liilia Šinkarjova, born in 1948, is a renowned Estonian actress and a leading figure of the Russian Theatre of Estonia (Vene Teater). Trained at the prestigious Moscow Art Theatre School, where she graduated in 1970, she immediately joined the company in Tallinn, becoming one of its most long-serving and acclaimed performers. Her career is characterized by complex and intense roles, particularly in the classical Russian repertoire. Her most memorable performances include characters such as Ranevskaya in Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" and Arkadina in "The Seagull," as well as roles in works by Dostoevsky and Ostrovsky. For her exceptional contribution to theatre, she has received numerous awards: she was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Estonian SSR in 1987 and, in 2002, received the Order of the White Star, 4th Class, one of the highest honours of the Republic of Estonia. She has also won several awards from the Estonian Theatre Union and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
