
Pavel Ponomaryov
Pavel Ponomaryov, born in 1980 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), is a contemporary Russian artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation. He trained at the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, one of the country's most prestigious institutions. His artistic work explores themes such as historical memory, cultural identity, and the dialogue between the past and the present. In his works, he often combines traditional techniques with reclaimed materials and archival objects, creating complex visual narratives. His career has gained significant international visibility through participation in major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and the Moscow Biennale. His works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Russia and across Europe. Among his accolades, he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts and has been awarded major national art prizes, such as the "Innovation" prize.
