Tommy Noonan
Tommy Noonan, born Thomas Patrick Noone (1921–1968), was an American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and director. He is best known for his comedy partnership with Peter Marshall, with whom he formed the team Noonan and Marshall, active on television and in nightclubs. As a film actor, he is remembered for his supporting roles in major productions. His most famous role is that of the wealthy and naive Gus Esmond, fiancé to Lorelei Lee (played by Marilyn Monroe), in the classic *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes* (1953). He also appeared in another iconic film, *A Star Is Born* (1954), alongside Judy Garland. Later in his career, Noonan turned to directing and producing independent, often low-budget films. Among these, he directed the comedy *The Rookie* (1959) and the controversial film *Promises! Promises!* (1963), which gained notoriety for its nude scenes featuring actress Jayne Mansfield.
