Donald Crisp (1882–1974) was a British-born American actor, director, and producer whose prolific career spanned from the silent film era to the 1960s. He began his career in Hollywood as an assistant to D. W. Griffith, for whom he played significant roles, including the brutal father in *Broken Blossoms* (1919). With the advent of sound, he established himself as one of the most reliable and versatile character actors, appearing in numerous classic films such as *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1935), *Jezebel* (1938), and *Wuthering Heights* (1939). The peak of his career came in 1942, when he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Gwilym Morgan in John Ford's film *How Green Was My Valley* (1941). He continued to act in successful films such as *National Velvet* (1944) and *The Last Hurrah* (1958), consolidating his reputation as an iconic figure of classic American cinema.
