Carlo Verdone
**Carlo Verdone** (born in Rome, 1950) is an Italian actor, director, and screenwriter, an icon of auteur comedy. Emerging in the late 1970s, he made a name for himself with his humor based on the characterization of neurotic, clumsy, or stereotypical characters, often mirroring the average Italian.
His directorial and acting debut, *Un Sacco Bello* (1980), immediately defined his style. His most famous films include *Bianco, Rosso e Verdone* (1981), *Borotalco* (1982), *Compagni di Scuola* (1988) and *Viaggi di Nozze* (1995).
Verdone is a master of transformation and observation of Roman and national idiosyncrasies, mixing laughter with a bittersweet and melancholic vein that makes his characters deeply human and recognizable.
