**Charlie Sheen** (born Carlos Estévez), American actor, rose to fame in the 1980s, initially distinguishing himself in dramatic roles. He is famous for his performances in Oliver Stone's *Platoon* (1986), where he played an idealistic soldier, and *Wall Street* (1987), in which he played an ambitious young broker.
At the same time, he demonstrated considerable comic talent in films such as *Major League* (1989), where he played an eccentric baseball pitcher, and the successful parodies *Hot Shots!* (1991) and *Hot Shots! 2* (1993).
