David Farrar

**David Farrar (1908-1995)** was a British actor, known for his imposing charisma and roles in iconic films. His career was inextricably linked to the works of the duo Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.

His most celebrated role was that of **Mr. Dean** in **"Black Narcissus" (1947)**, a charming yet gruff land agent in the Himalayas whose physical presence and sensual nature disturbed the missionary nuns. He also portrayed the composer **Julian Craster** in **"The Red Shoes" (1948)**, another classic from the duo.

Farrar was often cast as strong men, sometimes cynical or fiercely independent, possessing a magnetic presence and rugged charm that perfectly suited Powell and Pressburger's psychologically rich and visually opulent dramas. Although he also worked in other British and Hollywood productions, these roles defined his cinematic legacy.
