Dolores Costello
Dolores Costello (1903-1979) was an American actress, a silent film icon. Nicknamed the "Goddess of the Silent Screen" for her ethereal beauty and dramatic talents, she rose to fame with leading roles.
Among her most notable silent-era films were *The Sea Beast* (1926) and *When a Man Loves* (1927), both alongside John Barrymore, whom she married. She successfully transitioned to talkies, maintaining her popularity in productions such as *Noah's Ark* (1928).
Her style was characterized by a delicacy, grace, and melancholy that often led her to portray romantic heroines, vulnerable and sophisticated figures. After a period of retirement, she made a memorable return in Orson Welles's *The Magnificent Ambersons* (1942), her last major role.
