
Eli Wallach
Eli Wallach (1915-2014) was an American actor, an iconic figure in cinema with a prolific career spanning over sixty years. A master at portraying complex and often ambiguous characters, he distinguished himself by his ability to make antagonists charismatic and memorable.
He is universally recognized for the iconic role of Tuco, "The Ugly," in Sergio Leone's spaghetti western masterpiece *The Good, the Bad and the Ugly* (1966), a career-defining performance. Another celebrated role was that of the bandit Calvera in *The Magnificent Seven* (1960).
Among his significant appearances are *Baby Doll* (1956), which earned him a BAFTA nomination, and *The Misfits* (1961), where he starred alongside Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable. Coming from the theater, Wallach brought to the screen an intense, versatile acting style characterized by marked expressiveness. In 2014, he received an Honorary Academy Award for his lifetime achievement.
