Enrico Maria Salerno (1926-1994) was an Italian actor, director, and voice actor, recognized for the dramatic intensity and profound characterization of his roles. His often somber stage presence and unmistakable voice made him ideal for complex characters.

On the big screen, Salerno excelled at portraying tormented, cynical, or morally ambiguous figures, often grappling with existential dilemmas. Among his most renowned performances are those in Florestano Vancini's *La lunga notte del '43* (1960), Giuliano Montaldo's *L'Agnese va a morire* (1976), and particularly, his masterful portrayal in Valerio Zurlini's *Il deserto dei Tartari* (1976).

He directed the dramatic success *Anonimo Veneziano* (1970), which earned him a David di Donatello Award and became a cult classic, and the episode "Le vacanze intelligenti" from the film *Dove vai in vacanza?* (1978), demonstrating an unexpected talent for social comedy.
