Eric Blore

**Eric Blore (1887-1959)** was a British actor, a celebrated character actor in Hollywood cinema. He distinguished himself through his comedic roles, primarily portraying impeccable butlers, zealous valets, and English gentlemen, often pedantic or neurotic, with a touch of affectation and misplaced dignity.

His presence was almost a staple in sophisticated comedies and musicals of the 1930s and 1940s. Among his most celebrated films are numerous Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals, such as *Top Hat* (1935), *Swing Time* (1936), and *Shall We Dance* (1937). He was also memorable in the role of Mr. Todhunter in Alfred Hitchcock's *The Lady Vanishes* (1938).

Blore left a distinctive mark thanks to his subtle humor and his unmistakable British phlegm.
