Ian Hendry
Ian Hendry (1931-1984) was a British actor. He emerged in the 1960s with roles reflecting the 'Angry Young Men' era. Though primarily known for television (he was the first male lead of *The Avengers*), his film career was significant.
He was noted for his portrayals of complex characters, often ambiguous, intelligent, or tormented. His notable films include Sidney Lumet's *The Hill* (1965), where he delivered an intense performance alongside Sean Connery; Roman Polanski's *Repulsion* (1965), a psychological thriller in which he demonstrated his versatility; and *Get Carter* (1971), a British cult classic in which he played Eric Paice.
Hendry possessed a magnetic screen presence, often combining charm with a latent vulnerability.
