Jean Simmons (1929-2010) was a British actress, known for her elegance and remarkable versatility. She began her career at a very young age in British cinema, distinguishing herself in masterpieces such as David Lean's *Great Expectations* (1946) and Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's *Black Narcissus* (1947).

After moving to Hollywood, her career blossomed with leading roles in highly successful films. Her most iconic performances include the epic *The Robe* (1953), the celebrated musical *Guys and Dolls* (1955), where she also showcased her vocal abilities, and Stanley Kubrick's historical epic *Spartacus* (1960). She received an Academy Award nomination for *Elmer Gantry* (1960).

Simmons excelled at portraying complex female characters: often women who appeared vulnerable or tormented, but were always endowed with profound inner strength and dignity.
