
Jitsuko Yoshimura
**Jitsuko Yoshimura** (born 1941) is a Japanese actress known for her film career, particularly during the Japanese New Wave period.
She gained international fame for her role in Kaneto Shindo's *Onibaba* (1964), in which she plays a young woman forced to survive in wartime, a role that highlighted her intensity and vulnerability. Her collaboration with Shindo continued in *Kuroneko* (1968), another folk horror film.
She also worked with other prominent directors, such as Nagisa Oshima in *The Ceremony* (1971), where she played complex and often tormented roles, and Yoshishige Yoshida in *Eros + Massacre* (1969).
Her acting style is characterized by a strong stage presence, deep emotional expressiveness, and the ability to embody female characters who are often rebellious or struggling with extreme situations, making her an icon of Japanese arthouse cinema.
