John Dall
**John Dall** (1920-1971) was an American actor, noted for his portrayal of complex and psychologically ambiguous characters. His film career began with *The Corn Is Green* (1945), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
He is, however, primarily remembered for two iconic roles. In Alfred Hitchcock's *Rope* (1948), he embodied Brandon Shaw, the cold, calculating intellectual murderer, demonstrating remarkable dramatic intensity. Subsequently, in *Gun Crazy* (1950), a film noir classic, he portrayed Bart Tare, a tormented man with a morbid obsession for weapons.
These roles solidified his image as an actor capable of bringing to life brilliant but often disturbed figures, with a subtle streak of perversion or latent madness. His filmography, though not extensive, is marked by memorable performances.
