
John Gavin
**Gavin, John** (Los Angeles, 1931 – Beverly Hills, 2018) was an American actor.
Born John Anthony Golenor, he rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s as a leading actor, thanks to his elegant bearing and leading man looks. He is remembered for his performances in dramas and thrillers.
His most celebrated films include two masterpieces by Douglas Sirk, *Tempo di vivere* (Imitation of Life, 1959), where he played Lana Turner's boyfriend, and especially the iconic role of Sam Loomis in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller *Psycho* (1960). He also starred in Stanley Kubrick's epic *Spartacus* (1960).
Gavin often portrayed sophisticated, reliable, and at times somewhat detached characters, embodying a classic elegance of Hollywood cinema.
