Klaus Löwitsch (1936-2002) was a German actor, known for his roles as complex characters, often tough, cynical, or tormented. His film career was deeply linked to the New German Cinema movement, particularly to his collaborations with Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

Under Fassbinder's direction, he starred in key works such as *Welt am Draht* (1973), *Faustrecht der Freiheit* (1975), and *The Marriage of Maria Braun* (*Die Ehe der Maria Braun*, 1978), showcasing remarkable versatility. Löwitsch was often chosen for his ability to embody ambiguous figures, suspended between heroism and disillusionment.

He also worked with prominent international directors, such as Sam Peckinpah in *Cross of Iron* (1977) and Werner Herzog in *Despair* (1978). Characterized by an intense screen presence and marked expressiveness, Löwitsch remained an iconic figure of German auteur cinema.
