**Leopoldo Trieste (1917-2002)** was an Italian actor, director, and screenwriter. His long and prolific film career saw him portray unforgettable character roles.

He often played complex figures: intellectuals, tormented priests, bureaucrats, or eccentric characters. Among his most celebrated performances are that of Don Pirrone in Luchino Visconti's masterpiece, *The Leopard* (1963), and the role of Roberto in Federico Fellini's *La Dolce Vita* (1960).

He worked with major Italian directors, such as Nanni Loy, Francesco Rosi, Mario Monicelli, and Giuseppe Tornatore, who directed him in *Cinema Paradiso* (1988) as Adelfio. His measured yet incisive acting allowed him to leave a distinctive mark even in supporting roles, making him one of the most appreciated supporting actors in Italian cinema.
