She forged a pivotal artistic collaboration with Wim Wenders, who directed her in some of his most celebrated films. These include *Alice in the Cities* (1974), *The Wrong Move* (1975), and *The American Friend* (1977), where she often portrayed complex and multifaceted female characters. She also worked with Werner Herzog in *The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser* (1974).
