**Martin Sheen** (born Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez, 1940) is an American actor known for his intensity and versatility. He rose to prominence with complex and often tormented roles.

Among his early successes was Kit Carruthers in Terrence Malick's *Badlands* (1973), a performance that highlighted his ability to embody ambiguous characters. His most iconic role is undoubtedly Captain Benjamin L. Willard in Francis Ford Coppola's *Apocalypse Now* (1979), where he displayed profound vulnerability and resilience.

Throughout his long career, Sheen has played figures of authority, men of integrity, or tormented individuals, such as Bud Fox's father in *Wall Street* (1987), the police chief in *The Departed* (2006), or the FBI agent in *Catch Me If You Can* (2002). His acting is characterized by a blend of composure and profound emotionality, making him capable of tackling roles as a hero, anti-hero, or wise paternal figure. Although his career is predominantly cinematic, he also achieved enormous success in television as President Josiah Bartlet in *The West Wing*.
