
Masahiro Motoki
**Masahiro Motoki** (born December 21, 1965) is a Japanese actor. Initially known as a musical idol in the 1980s with Shibugaki-tai, he embarked on a successful film career, establishing himself in roles ranging from comedy to drama.
His first critical success was *Shiko Funjatta* (Sumo Do, Sumo Don't, 1992). The role that made him internationally famous was that of Daigo Kobayashi in the award-winning *Okuribito* (Departures, 2008), winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
His most notable performances also include *Tenkawa Densetsu Satsujin Jiken* (Lake of Death, 1991), *Nagasaki: Memories of My Son* (Haha to Kuraseba, 2015) by Yoji Yamada, and *The Emperor in August* (Nihon no Ichiban Nagai Hi, 2015). Motoki is appreciated for his ability to embody complex characters, often characterized by quiet dignity, emotional depth, and melancholic introspection.
