Maureen O'Sullivan
Maureen O'Sullivan (1911-1998) was an Irish actress, an icon of Hollywood's Golden Age. She is universally remembered for her most famous and enduring role: Jane Parker, Tarzan's companion, which she played in six MGM films alongside Johnny Weissmuller, starting with *Tarzan the Ape Man* (1932).
These roles defined her as the intelligent and compassionate jungle heroine. Beyond Tarzan, O'Sullivan demonstrated her versatility in significant films such as the mystery *The Thin Man* (1934), the drama *David Copperfield* (1935), and *Pride and Prejudice* (1940), where she was a delicate Jane Bennet. Her style was characterized by an understated elegance and the ability to infuse warmth and depth into characters often "good girl" or naive.
