Michael Murphy

Michael Murphy is an American actor, known for his familiar face and his ability to embody ordinary yet often complex characters. He has frequently portrayed professionals, journalists, or political figures, often with a touch of cynicism or disillusionment.

He formed a significant artistic partnership with director Robert Altman, appearing in iconic films such as *MASH* (1970), *Nashville* (1975), where he played a presidential candidate, and *The Long Goodbye* (1973).

Murphy also worked with Woody Allen in *Manhattan* (1979), in the role of Isaac Davis' intellectual friend, and with Paul Mazursky in *An Unmarried Woman* (1978).
