Mimmo Carotenuto
**Mimmo Carotenuto** (Naples, 1904 – Rome, 1970) was a prolific Italian actor, an iconic figure of post-war Italian cinema and *Commedia all'italiana*. He specialized in character roles and as a "sidekick," often alongside giants like Totò, Alberto Sordi, and Vittorio Gassman.
His comedy was based on characters who were humble, good-natured, sometimes naive or clumsy, but always imbued with genuine humanity. Among his extensive credits, prominent titles that have made Italian cinema history stand out. He was memorable in films directed by Mario Monicelli such as *Poveri ma belli* (1957) and *I soliti ignoti* (1958), where he embodied popular figures and the typical Roman character. He also made his mark in Pietro Germi's *Divorce Italian Style* (1961). Carotenuto, with his discreet but incisive presence, contributed to defining the face of Italian comedy.
