Nanni Moretti

Nanni Moretti (1953) is an Italian filmmaker, director, and actor. He is renowned for his highly autobiographical and ironic cinema, in which he often portrays an anxious and neurotic alter ego, the most famous of whom is Michele Apicella. His work analyzes Italian society and politics with an extremely critical yet humorous perspective.

Among his most representative films are *Ecce Bombo* (1978), which brought him to public attention, and the diaristic *Dear Diary* (1993), for which he won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. He reached the pinnacle of his career with *The Son's Room* (2001), which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Other important titles include *Red Wood Pigeon* (1989), *The Caiman* (2006), and *My Mother* (2015). His unmistakable style combines humor, melancholy, and reflection on contemporary issues.
