Nora Gregor

Nora Gregor (1901-1949) was an Austrian actress who made her mark in European cinema, both silent and sound. Admired for her natural elegance and aristocratic bearing, she became a prominent figure in the 1920s and 1930s.

Among her key roles were those in G.W. Pabst's *Die Liebe der Jeanne Ney* (1927) and, notably, that of Countess de la Pélissière in Jean Renoir's *La Grande Illusion* (1937). In the latter film, Gregor masterfully embodies the melancholy and dignity of a world in decline. She typically portrayed sophisticated, elegant, and often detached women, but with a profound emotional resonance, distinguishing herself with a subtle yet incisive screen presence.
