Peppino De Filippo

**Peppino De Filippo** (Naples, 1903 – Rome, 1980) was a celebrated Italian actor, brother of Eduardo and Titina. Despite his theatrical background, he left an indelible mark on Italian cinema, especially in comedy.

His film career is inextricably linked to the figure of Totò, with whom he formed one of the most beloved and prolific comedic duos. Films like *Totò, Peppino e la malafemmina* (1956), *Totò, Peppino e i fuorilegge* (1956), and *La banda degli onesti* (1956) saw him starring in roles as the perfect foil for the "Prince of Laughter."

His style, characterized by measured acting, expressive mimicry, and impeccable comedic timing, made him a master at portraying the middle-class man, the common man, often shy, naive, or clumsy. He also demonstrated his versatility in more complex roles, such as in Federico Fellini's *Le notti di Cabiria* (1957), and in successful comedies not alongside Totò, like *Pane, amore e...* (1955). His contribution to Italian cinema remains fundamental.
