Raymond Bailey
**Bailey, Raymond** (1904-1980) was an American character actor, known for his ability to portray authoritarian and often pompous figures. His long film career frequently saw him playing businessmen, doctors, military officers, or severe and sometimes exasperated officials.
Among his most significant film roles was that of the medical examiner in Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, *Vertigo* (1958). He also appeared in notable films such as *Picnic* (1955) and *No Time for Sergeants* (1958), where he refined his style of playing an inflexible but often unintentionally comical character.
Although he is most remembered for his role as banker Mr. Drysdale in the popular television series *The Beverly Hillbillies*, his extensive work in cinema, with over 100 credits, solidified his reputation as a reliable face for "establishment" roles.
