
Rita Moreno
**Moreno, Rita** (born Rosa Dolores Alverío, 1931) is a Puerto Rican actress, dancer, and singer, known for her exceptional and long-running film career.
She achieved international fame for her role as Anita in the musical *West Side Story* (1961), for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first Hispanic woman to do so. Prior to this, she had distinguished herself in supporting roles in iconic films such as *Singin' in the Rain* (1952) and *The King and I* (1956).
Moreno has often been associated with characters of strong, passionate, and resilient Latina women, sometimes challenging stereotypes or imbuing them with considerable depth. Her career spans over seven decades, with recent appearances including Steven Spielberg's *West Side Story* (2021), where she also served as an executive producer.
