Steven Geray
Steven Geray (1904-1973) was a Hungarian character actor who became a naturalized American citizen, known for his prolific film career. Specializing in supporting roles, he distinguished himself through his ability to portray sophisticated, and at times ambiguous, European characters.
Often cast as doctors, intellectuals, elegant gentlemen, or figures of uncertain morality, Geray imbued his characters with a touch of sophistication and subtle ambiguity. His discreet yet incisive presence made him a familiar face in classic Hollywood cinema.
Among his most memorable roles are those in film noirs and psychological dramas such as Alfred Hitchcock's *Spellbound* (1945), where he played Dr. Graff, and *Gilda* (1946), in which he appeared as Ballin Mundson's efficient assistant. He also made his mark in *So Dark the Night* (1946) and *Ladies in Retirement* (1941).
