**Valerie Hobson (1917-1998)** was a British actress whose film career primarily spanned the 1930s and 1950s.

She first gained attention in genre films such as *Bride of Frankenstein* (1935), playing Elizabeth, and *Werewolf of London* (1935). Her most successful period was in the 1940s, where she distinguished herself in roles of refined and composed women.

Her most celebrated performances include Estella in David Lean's *Great Expectations* (1946) and Edith D'Ascoyne in Ealing's *Kind Hearts and Coronets* (1949), where she demonstrated versatility in dramas and black comedies. Hobson was known for her elegant bearing and her ability to infuse depth and inner strength into seemingly fragile or high-society characters. She retired from acting in the early 1950s.
