Ward Bond
**Ward Bond (1903-1960)** was an American actor, known for being one of Hollywood's most prolific and recognizable character actors. His imposing stature and hoarse voice made him ideal for roles as resolute, strong-willed men.
He often played sheriffs, soldiers, policemen, loyal friends, or authoritarian figures, often gruff but reliable. Bond is remembered for his frequent collaborations with director John Ford and his friend and colleague John Wayne, appearing in many of their Western and war masterpieces.
Among his over 200 films, iconic roles stand out, such as Reverend Clayton in *The Searchers*, Bert the cop in *It's a Wonderful Life*, and Casy the preacher in *The Grapes of Wrath*. He helped define the "sidekick" or supporting character in the Western and adventure genres.
