Yuri Mefodiyevich Solomin (1935-2024) was a Soviet and Russian actor, an emblematic figure of national cinema and theater.

His film career was characterized by roles portraying noble, intelligent characters of strong moral integrity, often officers, intellectuals, or historical figures. Solomin was appreciated for his measured acting and his authoritative screen presence.

Among his most celebrated performances is his portrayal of Captain Vladimir Arseniev in Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, "Dersu Uzala" (1975), an Academy Award-winning film for Best Foreign Language Film, which earned him international recognition. Other significant films include "His Excellency's Adjutant" (Adyutant ego prevoskhoditelstva, 1969), a popular TV series that made him famous in the USSR, and "The Red Tent" (Krasnaya Palatka, 1969).
