**Alejandro Amenábar** (Santiago, Chile, 1972) is a Spanish director, screenwriter, and composer, known for his versatility and the psychological depth of his works.
He gained international fame with his early films, such as the university thriller *Tesis* (1996) and the intricate *Open Your Eyes* (1997), later remade in Hollywood as *Vanilla Sky*. His English-language debut, the Gothic *The Others* (2001) starring Nicole Kidman, solidified his reputation.
He reached his peak with *The Sea Inside* (2004), a drama about euthanasia awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. His subsequent works include the historical epic *Agora* (2009) and the thriller *Regression* (2015).
