**Aleksandr Dovzhenko** (1894-1956) was an influential Ukrainian-Soviet film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is recognized as one of the masters of silent cinema and a pioneer of poetic cinema.

His "Ukrainian Trilogy" includes the masterpieces *Zvenigora* (1928), *Arsenal* (1929), and, most notably, *Earth* (*Zemlya*, 1930), considered his most iconic work. His style is distinguished by the use of evocative imagery, visual lyricism, and a deep connection to nature, the Ukrainian land, and peasant folklore. His films often elevated the landscape and the soul of his people to protagonists, portraying social transformations with a highly personal and emotional approach.
