**Aleksandr Dovzhenko** (1894-1956) was an influential Ukrainian-Soviet film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is recognized as one of the masters of silent cinema and a pioneer of poetic cinema.

His "Ukrainian Trilogy" includes the masterpieces *Zvenigora* (1928), *Arsenal* (1929), and, most notably, *Earth* (*Zemlya*, 1930), considered his most iconic work.
