Jean-Luc Godard

Jean-Luc Godard (1930-2022) was a central figure of the French New Wave, revolutionizing cinematic language. A former critic for "Cahiers du Cinéma", he made his directorial debut with the iconic *Breathless* (À bout de souffle, 1960), a stylistic manifesto characterized by bold jump cuts, fragmented narration, and unprecedented spontaneity.

His distinctive style, continued in works such as *Contempt* (Le Mépris, 1963) and *Pierrot le fou* (1965), manifested itself through breaking the fourth wall, improvisation, erudite allusions, and constant metacinematic reflection. Godard explored existential, political, and social themes, often deconstructing narrative conventions and the very form of cinema. His career, which continued with increasingly radical experimentation, left an indelible mark, redefining the role of the filmmaker as a thinker and provocateur.
