Luchino Visconti

**Luchino Visconti** (1906-1976) was a celebrated Italian director, a key figure in post-war cinema. Among the founders of Neorealism, he debuted with the innovative *Ossessione* (1943) and continued with *La Terra Trema* (1948), works that depicted Italy's raw social reality.

Subsequently, his style evolved towards a more opulent and psychological cinema, often centered on the decline of the aristocracy and complex characters. Masterpieces such as *Senso* (1954), *The Leopard* (1963) – the epitome of his vision on the decline of an era – and *Rocco and His Brothers* (1960) showcase his ability to narrate grand human and historical panoramas.

His style is distinguished by meticulous attention to aesthetics, visual richness, and a profound psychological analysis of characters, addressing themes such as beauty, decadence, fate, and memory. Among his other notable films are *Death in Venice* (1971) and *Ludwig* (1972).
