Paolo Sorrentino

**Paolo Sorrentino** (Naples, 1970) is an acclaimed Italian director and screenwriter.

His films are recognizable for their distinctive visual style, characterized by a sumptuous, baroque, and often melancholic aesthetic, accompanied by an eclectic soundtrack. His films explore recurring themes such as loneliness, ephemeral beauty, social decadence, and power.

He achieved international success with works such as *The Consequences of Love* (2004) and *Il Divo* (2008), a biography of Giulio Andreotti. The culmination was *The Great Beauty* (2013), which won him the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, a decadent ode to Rome. Other notable works include *Youth* (2015) and the more intimate *The Hand of God* (2021), which reflects on his own youth.

A frequent collaborator with actor Toni Servillo, Sorrentino is one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema.
