Sergei M. Eisenstein
Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein (1898-1948) was an influential Soviet film director and theorist, recognized as a pioneer of cinematic montage. His technique, based on the "collision of images" to generate meaning and emotional impact, revolutionized visual storytelling.
Among his most celebrated works are masterpieces such as *Battleship Potemkin* (1925), a global landmark famous for the Odessa Steps sequence, and *October* (1928), an epic on the Russian Revolution. He also directed the historical dramas *Alexander Nevsky* (1938) and *Ivan the Terrible* (1944-1958).
His style was characterized by dynamic compositions, strong symbolism, the use of non-professional actors, and a focus on the collective rather than the individual. Eisenstein remains a fundamental figure in the history of world cinema and film theory.
